/* For Indonesian user, I have an article in Bahasa Indonesia. Take it here and download tutorial from this link. */
OpenSuSE 10.2 network installation required 2 basic step,
- Setting up Network Installation Source
- Boot and starting installation with network installation source
- Download OpenSuSE 10.2 from nearest mirror from your location. Indonesia has a nice mirror on http://kambing.vlsm.org/tuma/suse/10.2. If you need a complete CD, take download ISOs from http://download.opensuse.org or find another mirror.
- Burn CD as your backup ISOs
- Make a directory as source directory, e.g : /srv/suse102. If you have a DVD, copy entrire DVD to this folder, but if you have CD, copy CD content to separate folder, ie : /srv/suse102/CD1, /srv/suse102/CD2, etc.
- Select Yast | Network Services | NFS Server
- Click Start and Next
- Add source directory (/srv/suse102 or /srv/suse/102/CD1 in my example). Click OK
- Click Finish
- Write down NFS Server Address (IP Address or host name) and source directory (e.g : 192.168.0.6 is NFS Server IP Address and /srv/suse102 as source directory)
II. Boot and starting installation with network installation source
- Boot from the CD1 or Internet Installation CD (approximately 40 MB), and you will get a nice blue graphic menu
- Press F2 to choose your language
- Press F3 to choose your screen resolution
- Press F4 and select NFS
- Enter the NFS Server IP address you noted before - e.g. 192.168.0.6 points to source directory
- Enter the directory for the installation source you noted before - e.g. /srv/suse102.
- Select Installation from main boot menu and press enter to continue.
- A kernel will load and boot to an installation screen
If you set up everything correctly, the openSUSE Installation System will download. This is about 70 MB so give it some time. There should be a progress bar visible.
After the Installation System is started the install process follows the normal procedure, the same as the CD/DVD install.
